SVN - is it time for an Oracle branch?

    Hi there,

Is it time that there was a branch for an Oracle version of Nettiers? There are a lot of unknowns about the extent of Oracle support but if we could get a branch it would help bottom some of these issues out. I intend to merge the patched revision 624 with the latest version of Nettiers and, if successful, it would be great to make this available to everyone.

I agree with you.  Are there enough people to support this?  Is CodeSmith/Oracle willing to invest in it?  It looks like you have had this post for about four month and there is not even one reply!  We just purchased a copy of code I just tried to use NetTiers with Oracle and after downloading the native provider; I had to deal with how to get the template to use it(not much luck).  Why is the template using the old provider?  Are there so few Oracle users that CodeSmith or the community has not even bothered to make this change?  Every one knows the old provider does not work( 187 errors).  I hope we get enough responses to your post to make this possible.

Re: SVN - is it time for an Oracle branch?

I personally feel that there should be a branch in the NetTiers SVN for Oracle, even if it’s not up kept with the current NetTiers branch. This would allow people to be able to download a version that is compatible with Oracle.

The old Oracle provider that was released in the middle of last year will be receiving an update soon. I can’t give any specifics of when, but I think it should be released any day now.

I think the reason why were not really seeing NetTiers support for Oracle, is that there are a lot less people using Oracle in the CodeSmith and NetTiers community. Also from my personal experiences using a little bit of Oracle is that it’s not as user friendly as SQL server. But this isn’t any excuse for not supporting something that more than a few people show a great interest in.

    Thanks

    Hello,

That’s great news; I’ll have a member of the NetTiers team check this out as soon as possible!

Could you attach what you currently have so the NetTiers team can take a look at this?

    Thanks

When do you think we can test the new NetTiers for Oracle?  Does any one know of any Templates that work with Oracle?

I hope soon, but we still need to get a reply back from both the NetTiers team and foosfam. As for the oracle templates, most of the SQL templates need to be modified to work with Oracle.

    Thanks

I haven't heard anything on this topic in a while.
