    Timeline for supporting other databases?

    In the documentation, it states:

"Currently .netTiers supports Sql Server 2000, Sql Server 2005, & Sql Server Express.  Several other database providers like SqlLite, Firebird, and Oracle will be will be officially supported in subsequent versions of .netTiers."

I was wondering when/if these other database providers are going to be supported?

Also wondering about new version SQL Server Compact Edition (previously named SQL Mobile and SQL Everywhere), VistaDB and MySQL and when/if these will be supported?  (FYI...SQL Server CE is only supported in the new beta Enterprise Library 3.0.)   I know that it will probably require some structural change to support other databases.

I'm a huge fan of NetTiers and appreciate all the work has been done, thanks,

    Craig

Other database are supported now using the GenericClient, which you can find under the .  However, they do not support advanced features such as custom stored procedures.  Like you mentioned SQL CE is only supported by EntLib 3.0, which we probably won't upgrade until the beta II, and we'll have to create a branch for that, and likely the LINQ stuff, since they will both be in beta.

What is the GenericClient?  And where is it?  I can't find it anywhere.

Re: Timeline for supporting other databases?

Is there any documentation on using Oracle with netTiers and/or on using the Generic Client?  Is there any timeframe for full support of using netTiers with Oracle?  What exactly is needed (code) to get the same usuability as you can get today with SQL Server for Oracle from the netTiers templates?

    Thanks

Re: Timeline for supporting other databases?

Thanks, but I'm aware of the oracle schema provider.  I was wondering what needed to get full use of the templates when using Oracle (custom stored procedures, etc...).  I haven't had a chance to look at all the internals of the templates to see what was needed or help provided. I know several people have offered their help in getting this working in the past and I can lend a hand as well, but does anyone know what exactly is needed to get this moving forward?

    Thanks

    Hi Robert!

In your post, one can read: " Other database are supported now using the GenericClient, which you can find under the ." Something seems to be missing in the phrase. What is the GenericClient, and where can we find it? Has someone succeeded in using .netTiers with MySQL 5 using this?

    Cheers!
