I would love an add-in the pro package that would let me edit cst files directly in Visual Studio.  I use so many short cuts that are in Visual Studio but not in the CodeSmith editor, plus I have packages like ReSharper that would go a long way towards integration perfection.

 Right now its fairly frustrating to edit templates in the pro editor because of the differences.

I have to agree. If the Visual Studio integration was better, then there should be no need for having a seperate CodeSmith Studio. I have outlined this and other suggestions I have for CodeSmith in a blog post:

Is there a roadmap somewhere that spells out what features will will find beyon version 4.0?

I second and third. We use CodeSmith extensivly in our operations. More than once have I heard a developer say, "This should simply be an Add In to Visual Studio."

I've definitely got to echo that. I find myself dealing with the same frustrations; especially regarding the so-so intellisense.

Unfortunately, the Visual Studio editor can't support dynamically mixing two languages together like CodeSmith does.  It is also a MAJOR undertaking to make this happen.  IntelliSense is a very tough feature to implement properly.  That being said, we are looking to make Studio much better for the next major release of CodeSmith.

Any improvements in that area are appreciated. Even just setting code-behind files to open by default with the built-in VS editor (when opening from integrated CodeSmith Explorer) would be a great start. I'm not sure if there's anything there to build on, but ASP.NET's VS editor for aspx files seems to have made good strides on mixed language stuff. Is there anything in there that could be leveraged, or is that pretty much specialized for ASP.NET only?

@ejsmith:

I'd like to bring this thread back to life.

Though I appreciate the functionalities provided by CoseSmith Studio (I have bought the pro version), I too would definitely LOVE to be able to edit my templates and code behind files directly in Visual Studio.

If you could pull this out....  Stick out tongue

You can add me to the list as well.  Trying to edit a CS template in VS is pretty much useless -- unless you're used to using Notepad as your editor!
