Web Service Client With Compact framework 2.0 - Possible?

    Hi,

Is it possible to make the web service client work with a mobile device. I have several Applications that are mobile based (pocket pc 2003/2005) using framework 2. I would like to use .netteirs webservice client within these apps. I have two questions.

    1. is the web service cleint not suited to this invroment

    2. Is it possible to get it running on a mobile device.

I would be greatful for any ideas or thoughts on the matter.

    thanks in advance

    Nexus,

I have not heard anyone on the boards working in this model, so to tell you the truth, I have no idea how this would work out.  However, I would love to find out!

    Hi,

I am new to net tiers and code smith but not new to code generation, I have written my own tool in the past but I love what you have done with nettiers. From what I understand so far of netteirs it will work well in SOA achitected applications which then lend it self to mobile programming. It should be fiarly straight forward to intergrate it in to microsofts offline application block once I have figured out how to/ if its possible to add the web service layer to a mobile (.net 2005) project (it dosnt seem to work out the box).

Ill do some digging a let you know how I get on.

    Thanks for your reply...

Keep up the good work ... :)

So, has anyone else tried this?
I'm ramping up to do this myself, and I would apreciate any advice on pros/cons.

    Thanks

I've been trying to use the web service through the WebServiceClient too, without success yet.

You can still query the WS directly I guess...

    Nexus,

I'm new to Compact Framework. I created a web service and consume it with a CF device application (Pocket PC 2003). When I run using "Pocket PC 2003 SE Emulator", it gave me the error "Could not establish connection to network". I tried to use machine name, IP and domain URL, none of them works. Can you help me with this?

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Web Service Client With Compact framework 2.0 - Possible?

    Hi All,

Just wondering if you've had any luck with this?

When I reference the required components in the PPC project, I'm getting errors relating to not including the System.dll from the primary (not compact) .NET framework.

I also can't seem to query the WS directly ... it doesn't appear to expose the methods required, only entity objects.  Does anyone have an example of how to do this?

     Thanks!

    Tok
