Confused [8-)] Longer profile signatures please

I find 255 chars for profile signature a bit too conservative. (note that hyperlinks eat chars, too)

Personally, I think it is plenty - it seems gratuitous to have long, self-promoting signatures. This forum offers bios on members, which is probably the more proper place to 'pimp' oneself. Signatures any longer than what is currently allowed merely clutter up the forum. I would be interested in knowing the justification for long signatures; maybe I am missing something.

    Hi Jason,

See my signature? Do you think it is too long - I don't think so? It greatly exceeds 255 chars and the only reason I still have it is that is was ported from old forum I guess. But I can't change anything to my profile now because it always complain about signature being too long.

I see your signature. I do think it is too long.

    Stick out tongue [:P]

Lucky for you, I am not the one making the decisions on this type of thing; you may get what you are asking for eventually. Again, I simply feel a post to a message board is not the place for someone's humongous, self-aggrandizing signature - people are here to ask for help, post help, etc. and I think that signatures as large or larger than yours are a distraction from the purpose of a message board. I am probably more conservative in my opinion on this than most.

Just look at both of your posts on this page - especially the first - your signature is so large that it is not immediately obvious to someone looking at the post where the pertinent information is (the actual text of your post) - it is competing with your signature for attention. I am not here to see your signature, I am here to get help and lend help where possible.

This forum, and most others, provides a place where people can find more information about the person posting - that is where I think the type of stuff you have placed in your signature should belong. This is my personal opinion on things, so take it for what it is worth.

I'll have to ask the Community Server team about this and see what options we have.

Perhaps your picture on the post is of no value as well? You are taking up bandwidth that can be used for something of more value...although the picture is quite nice.

     Ok...I'm just being mean :-(
