CodeSmith 5.0 Beta has been released and is now available to the public.

Here are just a few of the new capabilities in CodeSmith 5.0:

Huge Performance Improvements - Caching optimizations and improvements in SchemaExplorer have resulted in huge performance improvements in generation time. Using .netTiers on a large database went from taking 11 minutes and 45 seconds in 4.1 down to 1 minute and 40 seconds in 5.0.

Supports Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 - use .NET 3.5 features in templates including LINQ simply by setting the CompilerVersion attribute on CodeTemplate to "v3.5".

CodeSmith 5.0 is designed to be installed side-by-side with CodeSmith 4.x so that you can use CodeSmith 4.x and CodeSmith 5.x at the same time. However, Visual Studio Integration will only use the beta version and cannot be installed side by side. To revert to use 4.x Visual Studio Integration, uninstall the beta version and run a repair on your CodeSmith 4.x installation.

Known Issues

ConnectionString Editor will not display inside Visual Studio.

CodeSmith 5.0 Beta is valid until August 1st.
